Moki’s NCIS Fanfiction Recs

On January 8, 2010, in Favorites, NCIS, by Mokibobolink

I decided to start posting my favorite fanfiction stories up here and was surprised at how much harder that turned out to be than I thought it would. Turns out I have a LOT of favorites so deciding where and how to begin was a challenge.

I’ll do my best to do updates to this list in batches, sorted by show and genre as much as possible. Also I will only be posting complete stories. I have nothing against WIP’s (Works In Progress), in fact I post those myself all the time, but I think when compiling a list like this it would be more fun for the reader to know that the stories are complete before they start reading.

Okay so here goes. The first genre shall be my favorite to write in, which is “hurt/comfort” (aka “h/c”). For any who don’t know what that means, it’s where one character is hurt either physically or mentally and another character cares for them, usually with a lot of angst on their part.

Remember, this is not a complete list (nor is it given in any particular order as I’m simply trolling through my favorites list). It’s just a few to get started.

Moki’s Favorite NCIS Fanfiction Hurt/Comfort Stories…

Fine Is A Four Letter Word
SUMMARY – When Tony collapses while pursuing a suspect, he insists it’s just the flu. He’s wrong. Abby/Tony friendship,Tony/Gibbs father/son. No slash or ships, just friendship/family with a healthy dose of angst. Set early season 5. Rated T for language. Complete!

Moki’s comments – A wonderful story that had me pulled in from the first chapter, full of plenty of angst and lots of not only Tony&Gibbs bonding, but lots of team friendship as well.

Accidental Heroes
SUMMARY – While investigating a murder at a remote country property, Tony, McGee and Palmer are cut off from the others by a hurricane. One is dangerously ill. Can the others keep him alive and can Gibbs get to them in time?

Moki’s comments – One of my favorite types of stories, a disaster leaves everyone on the team cut off from civilization. It allowed for some great moments from Jimmy Palmer and McGee as they do what they can to help Tony. I’ve re-read this one a few times.

There Loomed An Ogre
SUMMARY – Gen. Post ep for Missing. “…none of them would ever know that it felt like he’d been thrown off a twelve storey building without a safety net.” Tony attempts to come to terms with the day’s events. CH21 & 22 now up. FINISHED!

Moki’s comments – This is an h/c more of the mental hurt kind, rather than the physical kind. It centers almost exclusively on Gibbs and Tony and has some of the most heart wrenching moments in fanfic that I’ve ever read.

Don’t Let Go
SUMMARY – Tim and Tony find themselves in trouble after a chase goes wrong… Rating for some language and violence

Moki’s comments – Loved the friendship/bonding between Tony and McGee in this one.

Duty Bound
Summary – When an undercover mission goes wrong for Gibbs and DiNozzo, the exMarine is duty bound to make a choice. But will either man be able to live with the consequences of his decision? Now complete.

Moki’s comments – I loved all the twists and turns in this story and how it ends up in a completely different place than I expected.

That’s a really great list of fanfic! I enjoy NCIS h/c stories as well. For me it’s easy to get invested in a story, when a character is in some sort of danger or turmoil. NCIS cannon angst-ridden at times, so h/c isn’t a huge stretch in fanfic. :)

Oooh! I’m so looking forward to reading these! I’ve read “There Loomed an Ogre” and I am totally with you on your evaluation. It’s a great fic!

  • Andy

wow exactly those stories are my favorites as well! Well, but you did forget do add yourself!:-)

  • Andy

I mean, if it was my favorite stories list, you’d be there :-D …I’m rambling, sorry;-)

  • Mokibobolink

Pandi, I totally agree. When a character is in danger, I find myself getting drawn into a story that much faster.

KindleLyn, “Ogre” is fantastic, as are the rest of course. I can’t wait to hear what you think of them.

Andy, I didn’t think it was appropriate to add myself to my own favorite list. LOL. Thanks for saying that though.

  • Andy

Moki- LOL, you’re right…still had to say it, though:-D

  • Mokibobolink

You’re so sweet Andy, thanks. :)

    Hi Moki,
What a wonderful start to your blog. I really love your list of faves.
Like you, I have read and re-read Accidental Heroes, that’s a great story.
Can’t get enough well written, h/c Tony/Gibbs stories, especially if the story has the whole team. I am a big Jimmy Palmer fan so his role in Accidental Heroes is a great bonus for me.
I’m off to read another of your recommendations now – Line of Duty.
Thanks for the tip and good luck with your blog.
    Liz

Oops! Of course I meant Duty Bound – I’m just too excited about your blog! Liz

  • Mokibobolink

Thanks Liz, I hope you enjoy Duty Bound and any of the others you haven’t read yet. I hope to be adding to this list soon.

Moki, all great choices! I’m especially a fan of ‘Ogre’ – loved reading every, as you said, ‘heart-wrenching’ word. I’m also happy you chose Duty Bound as I’m a big fan of Richefic’s stories. Of course, I second Andy by saying I’d add your stories to my list of faves! ;o]

I’m looking forward to seeing what other faves you mention in future posts…

Loved Accidental Heroes – thought it had a great mix of drama, humour and wonderful characterisations. Laine3112 writes terrific character relationships, too! Of course, who could forget the Papa Gibbs/ Sick Tony that makes this story really special.

You certainly have picked some good’uns on your list.
